My daughter is obsessed with ranch. If she's not dipping into ketchup, she's pouring on ranch dressing.
I was never a fan of it, but now I use it in cooking and to dip my veggies in. I still don't use as a salad dressing, but I love it for other uses in the kitchen.
I used to buy ranch seasoning mixes, but now I make a batch of this homemade ranch dressing mix. It's cheaper, better for you, and tastes better.
I live in Amish country, so there are bulk food stores all over. I can get the ingredients fairly cheap and in smaller quantities.
Even if you do have to buy your ingredients in big containers, it's completely worth it because this tastes so much better than the packets you buy in the store.
Don't worry about making too much of this; I'll give you several ways to use your homemade ranch dressing mix for more than just dressing or dip.
Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
What is Ranch Dressing Made Of?
Ranch dressing is easy to make. I usually have all of the ingredients except the dried buttermilk and the dried chives.
You'll need:
- dried buttermilk
- parsley
- chives
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- dill
- salt
- pepper
Now I use dried buttermilk in my cooking, so I usually have that too. I use it for waffles, pancakes, and biscuits.
Make sure everything you use is dried. If you use fresh chives, dry them completely before adding them to the mix.
To make ranch dressing, combine dry mix, milk, and mayonnaise.
What's the Difference Between Ranch Dip Mix and Dressing Mix?
This homemade ranch dressing mix can be used for both a ranch dip mix and a dressing mix. The ingredients are same for both mixes.
The difference is what you add to make the dressing or the dip. I'll get to those in a few paragraphs.
Can I Substitute Ranch Dressing for Dry Ranch Mix?
You can use this homemade ranch dressing mix like you would a dry ranch mix. It has the same ingredients, so it works perfectly.
How Much is in a Ranch Seasoning Pack?
There are about 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning in one pack. If you make this homemade ranch dressing mix, use 2 tablespoons in place of each packet.

Make ranch dressing with 1 cup mayonnaise or Greek yogurt, 1 cup milk, and 2-3 tablespoons ranch mix.
Sprinkle ranch seasoning mix over a beef roast for a fun new flavor.

Sprinkle on pork chops or chicken. I also add ranch mix to breadcrumbs or crushed crackers to coat chicken or pork before baking.
