Dollar Tree Farmhouse Ornament DIY With Bottle Brush Trees

How to make a Dollar Tree farmhouse ornament.  This is an easy and inexpensive DIY for a homemade ornament for your Christmas tree.  You can also use these on a wreath or as a wall hanging.

I have a farmhouse.  A real honest to goodness farmhouse.  So of course I am thrilled that the farmhouse look is in style.

Of course, a real farmhouse is a bit different than the farmhouses on the TV shows.  For one, real farmhouses don't have kitchens like that.

You're lucky to be able to turn around in a real farmhouse kitchen.

Secondly, a real farmhouse probably only has one bathroom that was an afterthought.

But I digress.  My house has character, that's for sure.

Whether you have an actual farmhouse or just like the farmhouse look, this Dollar Tree farmhouse ornament DIY will look adorable on your tree.

Dollar Tree Farmhouse Ornament DIY

I originally made this Dollar Tree bottle brush ornament for my tree.  However, they have so many possibilities!

These would look adorable on the wall in a small space.  Or you could use a bigger basket and make a cute wall hanging.  Group several of them together over a mantle for a cute holiday decoration.

These Dollar Tree farmhouse ornaments would also be cute on a wreath.  You could use one or more baskets as a decoration on a hoop wreath or an embroidery wreath.

Bottle Brush Trees

I picked up the bottle brush trees from my local Dollar Tree.  They have green, white, and colored bottle brush trees starting around Halloween each year.

If you don't see a color that you like, you can bleach them and paint them.  Check out this tutorial on how to make bottle brush trees in different colors.  You can make your bottle brush ornaments in any color to match your decor.

If your Dollar Tree is out of them or you don't want to mess with changing the color. there are a lot of cute bottle brush trees on Etsy.

Paint

I just used a white spray paint to make Dollar Tree farmhouse ornaments.  I like that they ended up an off white and not a bright light, but that's just for my decor.  I don't use much white in my home, so the off white is perfect.

Feel free to use more than one coat to get a bright white.  You can use acrylic paint, chalk paint, or a spray paint.

Glitter

You'll want to use a very fine glitter.  I used this extra fine white glitter for mine.

It's important to apply the glitter while the paint is still wet so it sticks.  Then let dry and shake off excess glitter into newspapers or cardboard.

You can also use glitter Mod Podge.  It holds it better, and you'll have less fallout.  However, this will make your Dollar Tree farmhouse ornament have a shiny finish.  It's personal preference though.

Baskets

I picked up small tobacco baskets somewhere to make these bottle brush ornaments.  I thought I got them at Dollar Tree in the Christmas stuff as an ornament, but now I can't find them on the site.

Oriental Trading company had them, but they are out of stock. The closest that I can find is the tiny tobacco basket on Etsy.

You can use any flat basket, so check thrift stores and craft stores.
