How to Make Hot Chocolate Sticks Recipe

How to make hot chocolate sticks.  These are similar to hot chocolate bombs, but they are easier to make.  You can make several different flavors, so everyone can enjoy their favorite flavor.  These are perfect for parties, and they make great Christmas gifts.

I'm sure you've all see hot chocolate bombs on Tiktok or Instagram Reels by now.  They are very fun and very cute, but they are kind of a pain to make.

And you'll need a special mold.  A mold that you'll likely never use again.

Learn how to make hot chocolate sticks, which are similar to hot cocoa bombs, but they are a lot easier to make.

These are very fun for parties because each person can grab their own hot cocoa sick and make their own mug of delicious hot cocoa.

Plus there's a handy stick there for stirring.  No extra mess!

We are going to learn how to make milk chocolate hot chocolate sticks with this recipe and learn how to customize them with different flavors.

Check back in a few days for a white chocolate stick recipe.  You can use this Grinch hot chocolate sticks recipe to see how to make this in a paper cup.  This is also the recipe to use for white chocolate.

How to Make Hot Chocolate Sticks Recipe

When we have holiday parties, I like to have hot chocolate.  I usually make this easy slow cooker hot chocolate recipe.

This year, I made both hot chocolate bombs with marshmallows and melting snowman hot chocolate bombs.  Also try this hot cocoa spoons recipe.  For a fun twist, try these peppermint hot chocolate bombs.

Just like Dalgona coffee was the big Tiktok craze, hot chocolate bombs are also suddenly very popular.  They are fun, but they are time consuming to make and need a special mold.

These hot chocolate sticks are similar in that they are a single serving of hot chocolate.  You simply place the stick in warm milk and stir until it dissolves.

Then you have a yummy mug of hot cocoa.

I think hot chocolate sticks are easier to make.  I can make the recipe and make 25 hot cocoa sticks at once.

These also make cute gifts.  Just place a few in a bag, tie a ribbon, and they are ready to gift.

Chocolate

Another bonus to making hot chocolate sticks over hot chocolate bombs is that you can use chocolate chips.  I prefer chocolate wafers for the bombs, but chips work well for these.

I use milk chocolate chips, but you can use semi sweet chips if you prefer.

For white chocolate chips, come back later for that recipe.

You will need a bar of unsweetened chocolate.  You can find this in the baking aisle with the chocolate chips in most grocery stores.  (However, at this time it's cheaper on Amazon and with Prime shipping!)

Molds

I like this hot chocolate sticks recipe because it doesn't require a special mold, but you can use one.  They do look better because they are more uniform.

Personally, I just use my trusty Wilton 8x8 pan.

If I were making this for a party, I'd use a mold.  It will give you cleaner edges.

You can use a silicone ice cube tray or a silicone mini muffin mold.  Both work really well.  If you use these molds, it's easier to make several different kinds.

You will likely need to pipe the chocolate into the mold.  Work fast because the chocolate will set up quickly.

Sticks

I use reusable cake pop sticks to make mine.  These are actually cheaper than the disposable ones, so if a few get tossed it's not a big deal.

You can also use plastic spoons.  I personally like the look of the sticks, but use what you prefer.

Hot Chocolate Stick Toppings

Have fun with the toppings.  You can leave them plain or add one or more of the following.

Hot Chocolate Stick Tips and Tricks

Melted chocolate can get air bubbles.  Gently tap the pan (or ice cube trays) a few times to remove air bubbles.

Press any toppings down gently.  The chocolate sets up fast, so it may not "grab" them and hold them in place.

These can be made a day or two in advance.  I leave mine in the fridge until I'm ready to set them out, but they will be fine on the counter if they are covered.
