How to make magical unicorn hot chocolate stirrers. These hot chocolate sticks are like a hot chocolate bomb, but they are easier to make without a special mold. They have fun unicorn colors and have mini marshmallows hidden inside.
I have a teenaged daughter, so naturally we are a little unicorn obsessed here. She loves unicorn anything, and the more glitter is has the better.
The unicorn obsession isn't just limited to her; I've been known to enjoy some of the magic of unicorns. When I found unicorn sprinkles, she first thought of cupcakes. My first thought was a magical unicorn hot chocolate stirrers recipe.
These unicorn hot chocolate sticks are similar to the hot chocolate bombs that are all over Tiktok and Instagram. But they are a lot easier to make.
You don't need a special mold to make these magical unicorn hot chocolate stirrers. I used a small paper cup instead of a mold!
You just need three ingredients plus the adorable unicorn sprinkles to make these unicorn hot chocolate sticks.
Then just dip in a cup of warm milk, stir, and you have magical unicorn hot chocolate!
Magical Unicorn Hot Chocolate Stirrers Recipe
This unicorn hot chocolate is similar to my Grinch hot chocolate recipe and use white chocolate. If you prefer milk chocolate or dark chocolate, then learn how to make hot chocolate sticks with chocolate. You can also use wooden spoons to make hot cocoa spoons.
Both the white chocolate and the milk chocolate recipes are very similar. I made the milk chocolate in an 8x8 pan, and I made the white chocolate sticks in cups. You can use either method for both recipes.
This unicorn hot chocolate recipe is perfect for parties. Set them on a tray, and guests can make their own cup of hot cocoa. You can also make rainbow unicorn cupcakes for a sweet treat.
If you prefer, you can also make Crock Pot slow cooker hot chocolate for a crowd.

How to Make Hot Chocolate Stirrers
Hot chocolate stirrers are sometimes called hot chocolate sticks. You'll melt milk and chocolate and then pour it into a mold.
You can use either an 8x8 pan or 3 ounce Dixie cups. Both work great, but I didn't get really clean edges for the one I poured into the pan. If you're worried about presentation for a party, the cups might be a better option.
I like the Dixie cup mold because I wanted to layer my chocolate to make magical unicorn hot chocolate stirrers. I used pink and blue chocolate with marshmallows in between the layers.
The marshmallows just barely peek out through the chocolate. The marshmallows are optional, but I love how they look.
You can also just use white chocolate. Or use white chocolate and pink, purple, or blue chocolate. Feel free to customize these to make them your own and have fun!
How to Magical Hot Chocolate Stirrers
After you've made your hot chocolate sticks and they've set up, it's time to make your magical unicorn hot chocolate.
Unlike hot chocolate bombs that can be used in warm water or milk, you will have to use warm water to make your hot cocoa.
Simply fill a mug with warm milk. Then put one of these hot cocoa sticks in the milk and stir until the chocolate dissolves. The marshmallows will float to the top.
Chocolate
I used both pink chocolate wafers (Amazon or Etsy) and blue chocolate wafers (Amazon or Etsy) for this magical unicorn hot chocolate stirrers recipe. You can't add food coloring to chocolate because it will seize, so I recommend starting with a colored chocolate.
I haven't tried this recipe with white chocolate chips. They might be too soft to use in a Dixie cup, so store them in the fridge until you're ready to use them.
Molds
The best part about these hot chocolate sticks is that they don't need a special mold. You can pour the melted chocolate in an 8x8 pan or use 3 ounce paper cups.
Each hot chocolate stick should be 1 ounce of chocolate, so the 3 ounce size gives you plenty of room to make them and add marshmallows between the layers.
You can also use a mini muffin silicone pan or a silicone ice cube tray. I recommend using silicone so they are easier to unmold.
You might need to pipe the melted chocolate into the mold if you use an ice cube tray or mini muffin pan. Work fast because the chocolate will harden as it cools.
Sticks
You can use plastic spoons, popsicle sticks, or cake pop sticks. I used cake pop sticks.
I get the reusable cake pop sticks. They are dishwasher safe, so save them to wash and reuse. They are still pretty cheap, so if someone throws them away, it's not a big deal.
I tried adding these before the chocolate set up, but they just fell over. It drove me nuts, so now I just add them after the chocolate has cooled and hardened. Since you store these in the fridge, this helps you save space for easier storage.
Magical Unicorn Hot Chocolate Stirrers Toppings
I put mini marshmallows in between the layers of chocolate, so I didn't add any to the top of them. You could just pour 1 ounce of chocolate into the cups and add marshmallows on top if you want.
I also added unicorn sprinkles to the top for a fun effect. They are bright, colorful, and have unicorn shapes and horns.
Try one of the following toppings either on top or between the layers:
- Candy cane pieces
- Mini M and Ms
- Andes chips
- Chocolate drizzle
- Colored sugar
- Colored sprinkles
- Mini marshmallows
Magical Unicorn Hot Chocolate Stirrers Tips and Tricks
When you pour melted chocolate, you can get air bubbles. Tap the cups or mold gently after pouring to release any air bubbles.
Chocolate is pretty easy to layer, and the two layers will stick to each other. I let the bottom layer cool completely before I poured the top layer so there was some definition between the layers.
Place the sticks in the hot chocolate sticks after the chocolate has set up. You can add them just before serving.
If you add any toppings to the top, use the back of a spoon to gently press them into the chocolate so they stick.
These can be stored in the fridge for a few days.

- 1 pound pink chocolate wafers
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- Unicorn sprinkles
- Mini marshmallows (optional)
Magical Unicorn Hot Chocolate Stirrers Directions
Step #1
Combine the heavy whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk in a medium sized pan. Heat over medium heat until hot. Stir often and do not let it boil.
Step #2
Remove the pan from heat. Separate the milk into two glass bowls. I just eyeballed it to get them about even.
Add the pink wafers to one bowl and the blue wafers to the other bowl. Stir and let sit for 10 minutes. Stir well to melt the chocolate.
Step #3
Place 36 paper cups on a baking sheet. Use a spoon to add about 1/2 ounce of chocolate to each cup. I added 2 spoonfuls to each cup.
Step #4
Top with mini marshmallows if desired. I used about 1/2 tablespoon per cup.
Step #5
Then add 1/2 ounce of the other color to each cup. Tap them gently to remove air bubbles. Top with unicorn sprinkles or other toppings if desired.
Step #6
Place them in the fridge to set up. I let mine sit for 2 hours, but you can let them sit overnight or even for a few days if they are covered.
Once they are set up, use scissors to make a small cut in the top of the cup. The cup should peel right off. The bottoms stuck on mine, so be careful of the bottoms.
Step #5
Add sticks just before serving. Pour a cup of warm milk and stir in the magical unicorn hot chocolate stirrers.
Store leftover hot cocoa sticks in the fridge.
