Learn how to make mocha cappuccino bombs with coffee. These are similar to hot chocolate bombs, but they have mocha cappuccino coffee inside! The extra shell of chocolate melts for a delicious and easy cup of mocha chocolate coffee.
My kids are obsessed with hot chocolate bombs. I'll admit that they are fun to use. My daughter loves to make things with chocolate, and she quickly jumped on this Tiktok trend.
While I do love a cup of hot cocoa, I'm more of a coffee drinker. In the mornings I brew coffee, but I usually use a flavored powdered coffee in the afternoon.
I picked up a mocha cappuccino a few weeks ago. As we were making hot chocolate bombs, I thought why not make hot cappuccino bombs with coffee?
These are perfect for making coffee. The chocolate melts, which gives it a little extra creamy flavor.
Mocha Cappuccino Bombs With Coffee
We've been busy making hot chocolate bombs since they started trending on Tiktok and on Instagram Reels.
I've already shared how to make hot chocolate bombs with marshmallows, melting snowman hot chocolate bombs, hot cocoa spoons recipe, and Valentine's Day hot cocoa chocolate bombs.
These mocha cappuccino bombs with coffee are made the same way, but they have powdered mocha cappuccino inside instead of hot chocolate. For a cider drink, try my caramel apple cider bombs.
Choosing Chocolate for Cappuccino Bombs Drink
It's important to choose the right chocolate to make your hot cappuccino bombs with coffee. Many people use chocolate chips or a Hershey's chocolate bar to make theirs.
While I'll admit that Hershey's bars do have a great flavor, they are rather soft. Chocolate bars and chocolate chips are too soft to make chocolate bombs, and they can be difficult to work with due to this.
If you do want to use chocolate chips, add 2 teaspoons of refined coconut oil per cup of chocolate chips. This gives the chocolate a nice gloss and helps harden the chocolate so it is stronger.
I prefer to use chocolate wafers. They are made specifically for melting and pouring, so they hold up well. They come in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and different colors.
You can't add food coloring to chocolate wafers, so if you want a colored chocolate then use a colored wafer.
How to Melt Chocolate for Mocha Hot Cappuccino Bombs With Coffee
You can melt your chocolate in the microwave, double boiler, or in a chocolate melting pot. I'll go over the pros and cons of each method.
You can also make an Instant Pot double boiler.
How to Melt Chocolate in a Microwave
Most people prefer to melt chocolate for mocha cappuccino bombs with coffee in the microwave. Personally, I don't like this method because the chocolate can burn easily.
If you do use this method, keep an eye on the chocolate. Stir it often to help it melt evenly and keep the temperature fairly even so you don't get hot spots.
To melt chocolate in the microwave, put the chocolate in a glass bowl. Then microwave on high in 20 to 30 second intervals.
Between each interval, stir the chocolate well. This helps distribute the heat so it remains at an even temperature to prevent hot spots and burns.
How to Melt Chocolate in a Double Boiler
A double boiler is a great way to melt chocolate because there's little risk of burning it. To do this, fill the bottom of a pan with water and set the double boiler inside of it.
Then place the double boiler on top and stir every few minutes until the chocolate is melted.
Do not use a lid on the pan. Steam from the water can collect in the lid and drip down into the chocolate, which will ruin the chocolate.
How to Melt Chocolate in a Wilton Melting Pot
Finally, you can melt your chocolate for a hot cappuccino bombs with coffee in a Wilton chocolate melting pot.
This is my favorite way to melt chocolate because it has the correct temperature preset. Simply put the chocolate in the silicone liner and turn it on.
In about 10 minutes, you'll have perfectly melted chocolate. I stir it a couple of times so it melts evenly.
When you're done, turn off the heat and let the chocolate set up. Then pop out the chocolate and store it in a covered container.
Then hand wash or use the dishwasher for the silicone insert.
There's also a sectioned insert so you can melt two kinds of chocolate at once.
Melting Chocolate for Drizzle
I added a drizzle to the top. I'm not as picky about the chocolate for a drizzle since it's such a small area.
For the drizzle, I use the Wilton Candy Melt and Decorate bottle. You can melt the wafers right in the bottle and then use it to drizzle on top.
Mocha Cappuccino Bombs Coffee Mix
I used a mocha cappuccino mix that I picked up at Aldi a few weeks ago. It might be a seasonal item, but it is very yummy.
You can use your favorite cappuccino mix or make your own. This homemade powdered toffee coffee would work well too.
Mocha Cappuccino Bombs Mold
You'll need to use a half sphere mold to make a cappuccino bombs recipe. I used these hot chocolate bomb molds.
This has two molds, so you can make 6 at a time. They are thin, so I recommend setting them on a plate or a pan so you can move them from your work space to the freezer easier.
Mocha Cappuccino Bombs Ingredients
This makes 6 hot cappuccino bombs with coffee
- 2 cups chocolate wafers or chocolate chips (about 12 ounces)
- 1 cup mocha cappuccino powdered mix
Mocha Cappuccino Bombs Directions
Step #1
Melt the chocolate in a chocolate melting pot or double boiler.
Step #2
Spoon some melted chocolate into the mold. Use the back of the spoon or a candy brush to spread the chocolate. Place in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes. Add more chocolate as needed to make sure there are no gaps.
Step #3
If there are rough edges on your molds carefully melt the excess chocolate on a warm pan. Having flat edges will help your mocha cappuccino bombs look better once you assemble them.
Step #4
Add 2 tablespoons of mocha cappuccino mix to one half of the sphere. This will make it pretty full and you might have to mound it up.
Step #5
Warm the other half of the sphere or use melted chocolate on a brush. Then gently press the two halves together.
Hold them firmly but gently for 15 seconds. Place back in the freezer for 5 minutes.
Drizzle chocolate on top if desired.
They are now ready to use! You can use them right away or store them up to two weeks in a sealed container.
I hope you enjoy these mocha cappuccino bombs with coffee!
