I'd been a bit of a snob using my Wilton chocolate melting pot, but I really like this method too. Both worked really well, so I will use both of them so I can melt two kinds of chocolate at once.
What Can I Use for a Hot Chocolate Bomb Mold?
Most hot chocolate bombs are made with half sphere molds that are between 2 and 2.5 inches in diameter.
I used this adorable heart shaped mold for my Valentine's Day hot cocoa bombs.
For these Instant Pot hot chocolate bombs, I used my silicone egg bite mold. I wanted this to be a true Instant Pot recipe, so that's why I used it.
The Instant Pot egg mold hot chocolate bombs are so much easier to make! You don't have to piece two parts together, so if that intimidates you try this method.
You will need to use marshmallows though. They take up space in the mold and form a barrier to stop the chocolate that you seal them with from getting into the powdered chocolate mix.
It does make a big hot cocoa bomb, but it works perfectly!

Hot chocolate bombs are like bath bombs but they are a drink! They are hollow chocolate spheres filled with hot cocoa mix inside. Or in this case, they are Instant Pot egg mold hot chocolate bombs that look different but act the same.

The Best Chocolate for Instant Pot Hot Chocolate Bombs
I highly recommend using a chocolate wafer for your hot cocoa bombs. It's made to be melted and repoured.
Chocolate chips will work, but they can be soft. I add 2 teaspoons of refined coconut oil per cup of chocolate chips to harden them.
You can use either white chocolate or milk chocolate to make Instant Pot hot chocolate bombs. I used both to make these in two different batches.
Hot Chocolate Mix
You can use your favorite hot chocolate mix. If you want a sugar free mix, try this sugar free hot cocoa mix recipe.

Instant Pot Hot Chocolate Bombs Ingredients
- 24 ounces chocolate wafers
- 7 tablespoons hot cocoa mix
- 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
Directions
Step #1
Add two cups of water to the Instant Pot liner. Place a glass bowl on top of the Instant Pot. It should rest inside the liner without falling in.
Step #2
Turn the Instant Pot to sauté. Add the chocolate to the bowl and stir occasionally until melted.
Step #3
Once the chocolate is melted, spoon it into the silicone egg bite mold cavity. Use a food safe brush or the back of a spoon to spread the chocolate all over the cavity. Repeat with each cavity and then place in the freezer for 10 minutes.
Step #4
Take the mold out of the freezer. Add 1 tablespoon of hot chocolate mix to each cavity.
Step #5
Add marshmallows to each cavity until they are flush with the top of the mold. Spoon in chocolate to fill the mold. Try to get it as flat as you can on top.
Step #6
Let sit in the freezer for another 10 minutes. Then unmold your Instant Pot egg mold hot chocolate bombs and enjoy!
