While this can be a canning recipe, this particular recipe makes a small batch. I make my homemade strawberry applesauce in an Instant Pot, but you can also make it in a Crock Pot slow cooker or on the stove.

I use my Instant Pot for a lot more than just cooking dinner. I use it for easy Instant Pot apple butter with red hots, Instant Pot pumpkin puree, and homemade caramel sauce recipe in the fall. I also make a small batch Instant Pot applesauce with honey.

What Apples are Good for Applesauce?
I like to use a sweeter apple so I don't have to add sugar to my homemade strawberry applesauce. However, sometimes you have to use what you can get!
Here are some good apples to try:
- Cortland, Crispin, Golden Delicious, and Fuji apples are sweet.
- Rome, Liberty, and Ida Red apples are tart.
- McIntosh and Jonamac are a little tart and a little sweet.
Pink Ladies and Cortlands are my favorites for applesauce, but I'll just anything that's free.
How Can I Thicken My Applesauce?
If you like a thick applesauce, you can let it cook longer to remove some of the water. If you are making applesauce with strawberries in your Instant Pot, then use the sauté function to cook off water.
Just be sure to stir often so your applesauce doesn't burn.
You can also strain out water with a nut bag. I've done this, and it works. However, it's messy.
Sweetener for Homemade Strawberry Applesauce
I prefer to use a sweeter apple so I don't need to use a sweetener. However, if you have tart apples, then you can add some sweetener. Try one of these sweeteners:
- White sugar
- Brown sugar
- Coconut sugar
- Monk fruit
- Liquid stevia
- Sucralose
- Raw honey
- Maple syrup
