How to Make Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate Bombs Recipe
Last year pretty much sucked for all of us, but at least we got a few cool trends out of it. Hot chocolate bombs are one of my favorites.
I shared several recipes last year, and now I have a pumpkin spice cocoa bomb recipe. This is pretty simple to make, and it's so stinking cute!
If you're looking for a non candy Halloween treat to give, these pumpkin spice hot chocolate bombs are perfect. You could also make several for Thanksgiving dinner with family.

What Are Chocolate Bombs Made Of?
Chocolate bombs are made of melting wafers and hot cocoa mix. You can get creative using different molds, but the sphere mold is the most popular.
You can also add sprinkles or dehydrated marshmallows inside. Then use melted chocolate, edible markers, or candy sprinkles to decorate the top.
I used pumpkin spice hot chocolate to make these pumpkin hot chocolate bombs. I added a candy pumpkin to the top for a decoration.
What Size Mold Should I Use for Hot Chocolate Bombs?
Look for a mold that has cavities about 2.5 inches in diameter. If they are smaller, you can't fit much hot cocoa mix inside. Bigger cavities may be too large to fit inside a mug.
I use this mold to make fall flavor cocoa bombs.
How Do You Make a Hot Chocolate Bomb Without a Mold?
These pumpkin spice chocolate bombs are adorable, but they are a labor of love. If you don't want to use a mold or want an easier recipe, then you can get inspiration from these solid hot chocolate stick ideas:

How Long Do You Put Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate Bombs in the Fridge?
Once you melt your chocolate and brush it in the mold, you'll want to stick the fall flavor cocoa bombs in the fridge or freezer so the chocolate sets up. I leave mine in for about 3 to 5 minutes.
Where Do You Store Hot Cocoa Bombs?
Store your pumpkin spice chocolate bombs on the counter in an airtight container.
How Long Will Homemade Pumpkin Hot Cocoa Bombs Last?
Your pumpkin spice bomb recipe will stay fresh for up to two months. Store at room temperature in an airtight container.
Do Cocoa Bombs Need to be Refrigerated?
No, you should not refrigerate pumpkin spice chocolate bombs unless you use add something that can spoil inside like something milk based or chocolate ganache.
Refrigerating fall flavor cocoa bombs will cause the chocolate shell to absorb moisture, which will spoil your bombs.
Can You Freeze Hot Cocoa Bombs?
Personally, I would not freeze pumpkin hot chocolate bombs. Technically, they will freeze and be fine, but they will likely not be as pretty when you thaw them.
If you want to freeze them, wrap the pumpkin hot chocolate bombs in plastic wrap individually. Then place in a freezer container.
Again, I don't recommend freezing a pumpkin spice bomb recipe. They will last up to two months on the counter.
Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Bombs Tips
Here are some tips to help you make perfect fall hot cocoa bomb flavors:
- I like to use a Wilton melting pot to melt my chocolate. You can also learn how to make an Instant Pot double boiler to melt chocolate. I prefer both of these methods to using the microwave.
- You can melt the orange candy melts for the top in the microwave since they won't be poured into a mold. I like the Wilton Melt and Decorate bottle.
- I use a spoon to pour melted chocolate into the mold. Then I use a small chocolate brush to make sure I don't have any gaps.
- I use two small layers of chocolate rather than one thick one. The purple mold is thin, so you can actually see light coming through it so you can fill in any gaps.
- You can use your favorite hot cocoa. I used pumpkin spice, but you can use other fall hot cocoa bomb flavors. Try this sugar free hot cocoa mix or use a chai tea mix if you prefer.
- The white chocolate outer shell looks pretty with the pumpkin on top, and pumpkin spice and white chocolate taste great together. However, you can use milk chocolate if you prefer.
- I highly recommend using white chocolate wafers and not white chocolate chips. The wafers are meant for melting and pouring into molds, so I think they perform better.
- Swap the pumpkins on top for candy corn or even fall themed sprinkles.

How to Make Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate Bombs Recipe
Step #1
Use a double boiler to melt the vanilla candy melts. You can also microwave on high for 1 minute at 50 percent power. Stir the melted chocolate and continue to microwave for 30 seconds at a time. Place the silicone mold on a baking sheet and spoon about 1.5 tablespoons of melted chocolate into each cavity of the mold. Place in the fridge or freezer for 3 to 5 minutes.
Step #2
Carefully push the chocolate out from the mold. The chocolate is fragile, so wear food safe gloves and handle as little as possible.
Step #3
Heat a place in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. Place a sphere open side down on the place and twist sightly to melt the rim.
Step #4
Place about 2/3 of a packet of hot cocoa mix into the sphere and add mini marshmallows. Place another sphere on the plate and then place it on top of the sphere and twist slightly to help them stick together.
If there are cracks, heat a spoon in hot water, dry it, and use it to smooth the seam. Repeat until you've made three pumpkin spice hot chocolate bombs.
Step #5
Heat the orange candy melts. You can use the microwave for this since it's a small amount and won't be poured in the mold. Use the Wilton bottle or pour the orange chocolate into a sandwich bag and cut off the tip. Pipe the orange candy melts over the pumpkin chocolate bombs. Place a pumpkin on top and let rest for a few minutes until set up.
How to Use Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Bombs
When you're ready to drink your fall flavor cocoa bombs, heat 8 ounces of water or milk in the microwave or on the stove.
Place pumpkin hot chocolate bombs in a mug and slowly pour the milk over it. Stir gently so the chocolate melts and the bomb opens.
Stir until the cocoa mix is fully dissolved. Enjoy!
