Chocolate Iced Coffee Recipe

I'm one of those people who believes that it's never too hot for coffee.  But that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy a chocolate iced latte every once in a while.

I used to get my iced coffees at a coffee shop, but then I learned how incredibly easy it is to make a mocha iced latte recipe at home.

Now I make my own chocolate iced mocha recipe.  I save a lot of money, and I save a lot of calories.  I can make them low sugar or sugar free and make them dairy free (or at least lactose free).

What's the Difference Between Iced Mocha and Iced Latte?

An iced mocha recipe has brewed coffee or cold brew, milk, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream.  An iced latte is made with espresso and steamed milk.  Both are served over ice.

Most people use chocolate iced latte and and iced mocha interchangeably.  The key differences are the type of coffee used and if the milk is steamed.

Since I just want a quick chocolate iced coffee that I can make at home, I use cold brew and milk straight from the jug.

If you want to brew espresso and used steamed milk, by all means use that.

What is in Starbucks Iced Mocha?

If you order off the menu with no changes, a Starbucks iced mocha recipe has:

  • Ice
  • Milk
  • Mocha sauce
  • Espresso
  • Whipped cream
  • Vanilla Syrup

Their syrups have preservatives and a lot of sugar.  You can easily make your own Starbucks iced mocha latte recipe at home and cut the sugar or make it sugar free.

What Does Iced Mocha Taste Like?

This chocolate iced mocha is a creamy and chocolatey cold coffee drink.  It is creamy thanks to the milk choice, and the chocolate syrup makes it taste like a mocha with some sweetness.

Best Coffee to Use for Mocha Iced Latte Recipe

I used to brew extra coffee and let it cool to make a chocolate iced latte later in the day.  However, brewed coffee can get bitter when it's cooled.

Then I learned how to make cold brew coffee.  Cold brew takes 24 hours to make, but you can save it in the fridge for up to a week.  I use this cold brew kit to make mine in a mason jar.

Cold brew isn't bitter like hot brewed coffee.  It's smoother in this chocolate iced latte.

You can also make Instant Pot iced coffee.  This is a strong concentrate that will need to be diluted.  It works well and takes less time, but it is more bitter than cold brew.

You can also buy cold brew at the store.  I really like Stok cold brew.  I get it at Aldi, but it's a national brand.

Starbucks also makes a cold brew, but I think it's a little bitter compared to Stok.

Personally, I either use Fairlife because it's lactose free or oat milk.  It just depends on if I have some Fairlife that needs used up or not.

How Do You Make a Chocolate Iced Mocha?

Step #1

Brew your coffee or espresso and let cool.  I use cold brew, so it's ready to use.

Step #2

Fill a cup with ice.  You can drizzle chocolate sauce around the cup before adding ice if you want to be fancy.

Step #3

Add the cooled coffee, milk choice, vanilla extract, and chocolate syrup.  Stir well.  Add sugar or other sweetener if desired.  Top with whipped cream.

This chocolate iced mocha recipe is so easy to make!  I love that I can customize it too.
