Apple Cider Mule Recipe

I've been having fun experimenting with different apple cider cocktails this year.  I came across an apple cider mule recipe, but I wasn't sure how it would be.

I love apple cider, but I'm not a big fan of Moscow mules.  I tried this Thanksgiving mule anyway, and I'm glad the apple cider flavor comes out more than the alcohol flavor does.

This is an easy fall Moscow mule, and you can make it by the glass.  You'll use just 2 ounces of ginger beer, so you can make several cups with one bottle of ginger beer.

Why You'll Love This Apple Cider Moscow Mule

You'll love this apple cider mule drink because it's delicious and so easy to make.  You need vodka, lime juice, apple cider, and ginger beer to make it.

I make it by the glass, but you could make a pitcher.  The ginger beer is carbonated, so keep that in mind when making a pitcher.

I'll still drink it flat, but it's better when it's bubbly.

You can use apple cider straight for the jug or make this easy hot apple cider recipe with spices and then let it cool and use that.  You can also use Instant Pot apple cider.

Why Do They Call it a Mule Drink?

The apple cider Moscow mule is so named because the world associates Moscow with vodka, and the ginger in the ginger beer gives it a little kick like from a mule.

Can You Make a Fall Moscow Mule With Ginger Ale?

Yes, you can use ginger ale to make a Thanksgiving Moscow mule.  Ginger beer and ginger ale are not exactly the same, but either will work.

Ginger beer was born out of necessity.  The low alcohol content killed germs in water, and the ginger was used for flavor.

Today, we have ways to store water and now have soft drinks.

A true apple cider Moscow mule uses ginger beer, but feel free to substitute ginger all or even diet ginger all if desired.

Can I Use a Different Alcohol Besides Vodka to Make Apple Cider Mule Drink?

Yes, you sure can swap the vodka in this apple cider Moscow mule recipe.

Here are a few kinds to try:

  • Use tequila for a Mexican mule
  • Use bourbon for a Kentucky mule
  • Use gin for a Gin Gin mule
  • Use rum for a Dark and Stormy mule
  • Use whiskey for an Irish mule
  • Use spiced rum for a Jamaican mule

Why is a Fall Moscow Mule Served in a Copper Mug?

This Thanksgiving Moscow mule recipe is best served ice cold.  Copper is a great temperature conductor, so it keeps the drink very cold.  It helps keep the drink cold longer.

While you can serve this fall cocktail in a regular mug, I recommend using a copper mug.

If you want to make a mocktail, you can easily do that.  Simply swap the vodka with tonic water.
