Fireball Boozy Hot Chocolate Bomb

Hot cocoa bombs are a fun way to enjoy your favorite winter drink, and now there's a grown up version.  This boozy cocoa bombs recipe is made the same way but with Fireball whiskey inside instead of hot cocoa.

Boozy Cocoa Bombs Recipe

We've made several types of hot cocoa bombs, including these hot cocoa bombs with marshmallowspeppermint hot chocolate bombs, and salted caramel apple cider bombs.

Adding Fireball whiskey gives this fun drink a glow up and creates a delicious white chocolate and cinnamon drink that will be a hit at your parties.

The white chocolate and cinnamon pair well together, and the milk makes it creamy and delicious.  The cinnamon adds spice for cold winter nights.

Ingredients

White chocolate chips or candy melts.  I prefer to use candy melts for making hot cocoa bombs because they melt and set up better.

Heavy Cream.  I used heavy whipping cream.  Aldi has the best price.

Fireball Whiskey.  I used Fireball brand, but you can use your favorite cinnamon whiskey.

Sanding Sugar.  I topped mine with red sanding sugar.  This is optional, but it helps them look pretty.

Optional Add Ins.  You can also add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg, candy cane bits, a pinch of sea salt, or marshmallows.

Silicone mold.  I used this half sphere silicone mold.

Chocolate melter.  I love my Wilton melting pot, but you can also use a double boiler.  I'm not a fan of microwaving chocolate to melt it, but you can do it if you're careful not to let it get too hot.

Avoiding Common Mistakes

  • Avoid overheating the chocolate because this can make it grainy.
  • Do not get water into the chocolate or add a liquid food coloring.  This will cause the chocolate to seize.
  • I find it helpful to apply two coats of chocolate to the molds.
  • If the shell cracks, use a decorating brush to brush on melted chocolate to cover the crack.
  • Let the ganache cool before filling the molds.

Variations

You can really have some fun with this boozy cocoa bombs recipe.  Here are some variations to try:

  • Use dark chocolate or milk chocolate instead of white chocolate for the shell or for the ganache.
  • Drizzle melted chocolate over the bombs after you make them.  You can use colored candy melts or chocolate.
  • Cover with candy cane bits, cocoa powder, or edible glitter.
  • Experiment with Baileys, KahlĂșa, or amaretto for unique flavor profiles
  • Replace Fireball with flavored syrups or extracts and use colorful marshmallows for a fun, non-alcoholic treat.

How to Store Your Boozy Bombs

Since these use heavy whipping cream in the ganache, you'll need to store them in the fridge and use within a few days of making them.

How to Use Fireball Hot Chocolate Bombs

Place a cocoa bomb in a mug and pour hot milk over it. Watch as it melts and releases its contents. Stir well and enjoy.

How to Fireball Boozy Bombs

Step #1

Melt 2 cups of cocoa wafers in a double boiler or chocolate melter.  Fill each cavity of the mold with melted chocolate.  Use the back of a spoon or brush to ensure an even coat.  Allow to set and add another layer.  Make sure that the top edge is covered in chocolate.  Let set up completely.

Step #2

To make the ganache, melt 2 cups of white chocolate wafers in a microwave safe bowl.  Add the heavy cream and Fireball.  Heat for 1 minute and stir well.  It should be smooth.  Let cool so it doesn't melt the chocolate shell when you pour it in.

Step #3

Gently unmold the sphere halves.  Heat a frying pan on the stove on low or warm.  Place one half of a sphere on the warm pan to melt the edges to create a smooth edge.

Step #4

Add 2 tablespoons of ganache to the shell.

Step #5

Place another shell on the warm pan to melt the edges.  Immediately place this shell on top of the filled half to seal them together.  Gently press the two halves together and press along the seam to seal it.

Step #6

Repeat with all of the chocolate sphere halves until completely.

Step #7

To decorate, drizzle remaining melted chocolate over the boozy bombs.  Add red sprinkles if desired.

Step #8

To use, place a boozy hot chocolate bomb in a mug.  Slowly pour 8 to 12 ounces of hot water or milk over the bomb and wait for it to explode.  Stir well and let cool until it's okay to drink.
